What is skin rejuvenation?

Skin rejuvenation at LUMÉ means a planned programme of medical-grade chemical peels, supported by the right skincare at home. A peel is a carefully chosen solution — often based on fruit or plant-derived acids such as glycolic, lactic, mandelic or salicylic acid — applied to the skin for a set time. It loosens the dull, dead cells on the surface and encourages the skin to renew itself.

The result, over a course, is skin that looks brighter and feels smoother, with a more even tone. Peels range from very light “lunchtime” treatments with no visible peeling, to deeper peels that need a few days of downtime. We always start gently and build up only if your skin is ready.

Microneedling

Alongside peels, we offer microneedling. A medical pen-style device creates thousands of tiny, controlled channels in the skin, which prompts the skin’s natural repair process and collagen production. Over a course of three to six sessions, about four weeks apart, it can gradually refine skin texture, the look of enlarged pores and shallow acne scarring. Numbing cream keeps it comfortable, and skin is usually pink for 24–48 hours afterwards. It isn’t suitable over active acne or infection, or with some medicines — we’ll check at your consultation.

Who is it for?

Peels may help adults aged 18 and over with:

  • Dull or tired-looking skin that has lost its glow.
  • Pigmentation — uneven tone, sun spots and dark marks left behind by blemishes.
  • Acne and acne scarring — reducing congestion and gradually softening shallow scarring and texture.
  • Fine texture and enlarged-looking pores.

Peels are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have active cold sores or broken skin, have recently used certain acne medicines, or have a tan or sunburn. Some skin tones need specific peels and extra preparation to reduce the risk of pigmentation changes. Deep or pitted scarring may need a different approach, and we will tell you honestly if a peel is unlikely to help.

What happens on the day?

  1. Consultation and skin assessment. We look closely at your skin, ask about your skincare and medical history, and agree realistic goals.
  2. Skin preparation. For some peels we ask you to use preparation products at home for two to four weeks beforehand.
  3. Cleanse. Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and any sensitive areas protected.
  4. Peel. The solution is applied in thin layers for a few minutes. You may feel warmth or tingling; a cooling fan helps.
  5. Neutralise and protect. The peel is removed or neutralised, and soothing products and SPF are applied.

Downtime and aftercare

Light peels usually cause mild redness for a few hours. Medium peels can cause tightness and light flaking for three to five days. Please do not pick or peel flaking skin — let it come away naturally.

  • Use a gentle cleanser and the moisturiser we recommend.
  • Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 every day, even when it’s cloudy.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, swimming and intense exercise for 48 hours.
  • Pause retinol, exfoliating acids and scrubs for about a week.

Risks, in plain language

Peels are generally very safe when the right peel is chosen for your skin. Common effects are redness, tightness, sensitivity and flaking. Less commonly, peels can cause a flare of cold sores, prolonged redness, or temporary darkening or lightening of the skin — which is why we assess your skin type carefully and may prepare the skin first. Rarely, deeper peels can cause scarring or infection. We will explain the specific risks of your recommended peel before you decide.

Results. Improvements build gradually over a course of treatments and depend on your skin and how well it is protected from the sun. Individual results vary.

Skin rejuvenation FAQs

Your questions

How many peels will I need?

Most people see the best improvement from a course of three to six peels, two to four weeks apart, followed by occasional maintenance. We will suggest a plan based on your skin and goals.

Do skin peels hurt?

Most people feel warmth, tingling or mild stinging for a few minutes while the peel is on the skin. We use a cooling fan and remove the peel if you are uncomfortable.

Can I have a peel with darker skin?

Yes, many peels are suitable for all skin tones, but the type and strength must be chosen carefully to reduce the risk of pigmentation changes. Your practitioner may recommend preparing your skin for a few weeks first.

How much does skin rejuvenation cost?

Skin peels at LUMÉ start from £95 per session, with reduced prices for a course. Your exact plan and price are confirmed in writing at your consultation.

Is there an age limit?

Yes. All LUMÉ treatments, including skin peels, are for adults aged 18 and over.
